EV Charger Grants in 2026

Save money on your home, rental property or workplace charger installation

19 April 2026 · By E-Charge Install · 5 min read

Grants are still available to help reduce the cost of EV charger installations. From 1 April 2026, the government increased several grant values and simplified the available schemes. There are now five EV chargepoint grant schemes available until 31 March 2027.

Who can apply?

Renters and flat owners

If you rent your home, or you own and live in a flat, you may be eligible for support towards the cost of buying and installing an EV charger. The current grant provides up to 75% of the cost, capped at £500 per socket, for eligible properties with private off-street parking. Residents can apply for one socket.

Households with on-street parking

If your property does not have a driveway and you rely on on-street parking, support may still be available. The government offers a grant of up to £500 where a charger is installed alongside a suitable cross-pavement solution, such as a charging gully. This grant cannot be backdated.

Residential landlords

Businesses, charities and public sector organisations

The Workplace Charging Scheme supports eligible organisations installing EV chargers at work premises. The current grant provides up to £500 per socket, and eligible applicants can claim for up to 40 sockets across their sites.

State-funded education institutions:

Eligible state-funded education institutions can now apply for up to £2,000 per socket, with funding available until 31 March 2027. Applications can cover up to 40 sockets across sites.

What changed in 2026?

From 1 April 2026, the government extended these grants for a final year, increased grant rates for several schemes, and reduced the old portfolio down to five core schemes. The renters, flat owners, landlord and workplace grant rates increased from £350 to £500 per socket.

If you applied for certain home or landlord grants before 1 April 2026, you may be able to re-apply for the new £500 rate as long as the charger has not yet been installed.

Important before you book installation

For the current resident and landlord application routes, the government states that the charger must not be installed before grant eligibility has been confirmed. This is important, as applications are not generally backdated under the current schemes.

That means the right order is usually:

1. Check eligibility

Review the current scheme that matches your property or organisation.

2. Apply for the grant

Complete the relevant government application before installation takes place.

3. Receive confirmation

Once approved, the next steps are issued to you and the installer.

4. Book the installation

We then carry out the installation in line with the scheme requirements.

Why speak to E-Charge Install?

We help customers understand which grant may apply before installation begins. That includes:

  • identifying the most suitable grant route

  • advising whether your property or site setup looks eligible

  • supplying and installing a compatible charger

  • helping you avoid mistakes that could affect a claim

Grant eligibility depends on your property type, parking arrangement, and whether approval is in place before works begin. Using the latest government guidance helps keep the process clear and compliant.
