Government EV Charger Grant for Schools
State-funded education institutions can currently access dedicated government support through the Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions. The scheme has been extended until 31 March 2027. From 1 April 2026, eligible institutions can receive 75% off the cost to buy and install chargepoints, up to a maximum of £2,000 per socket, for up to 40 sockets across all sites. Successful applicants receive a voucher valid for 180 days from the date of issue.
This makes it a strong opportunity for schools looking to install EV chargers while reducing upfront costs. If an education institution applied before 1 April 2026, older vouchers may still remain valid for up to £2,500 per socket.
Is your school eligible?
The grant is for state-funded schools and education institutions in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. To qualify, the site must have an existing or future need for EV charging and designated off-street parking clearly associated with the premises. That parking can be used by staff, visitors, guests or others linked to the site.
If you are unsure whether your school qualifies, we can help you review the site setup before you move forward.
